I have been wearing monochromatic since I can remember. When trying to achieve a perfect monochromatic look one of the first decisions to make is the color family. I normally like to do monochromatic with neutrals but you can also do it with color. There are so many ways to do this but if you would like to achieve a sophisticated and elegant look stay with neutrals such as white, tan, beige, nude, gray. Once you have those color families down then you can start going in to color. Color is trickier, so be more patient when putting the outfit together.
THE COLOR FAMILY
For example I chose whites, nudes, tans and blush. Find your base and then work around it. My base were the pants and instead of doing a white top I decided to add a little contrast with an off white top. White would of worked just fine but I was looking for little variation in color. I added a blazer with a little higher pigment, the color is more towards pale pink. Then I added the belt and the bag with similar tonalities. The bag is more on the blush and the belt is more beige, but because I am staying in the same family of colors the little differences in tonality or shades it compliments the look. It Adds layers. The shoes where the darkest color of the look but it works fine. The trick is to have lighter to darker colors to keep a settle contrast going through out the outfit.
FIND THE PIECES
This can take time but is well worth it. Pull different pieces from your closet and start mixing and matching. You wIll see how many looks you are going to find just by adding and subtracting colors. Keep layers in mind. This adds the contrast and dimension to the look. Don’t be afraid, play!
CONTRAST WITH FABRIC / TEXTURE
Having different type of textures is another important element. Once again it adds contrast and it keeps the look texturized nothing wrong with having the same fabric but thats kind of hard when your main focus needs to be keeping consistency with the color story. But if you can go for it!!! it depends of the look you are looking for.
ADD FINAL TOUCHES
Find the jewelry and sunnies to match your master work. I went for a pair of Chloe sunglasses that has a blush tint and a stack of gold choker necklaces. I am in to hoop earrings these days plus a minimalistic crystal bracelet and gold watch.
